Home Alone : Another degilling, scaling, de-tailing, fins, guts and such day

10:20 – 10:56

I made two servings for breakfast, the boy was not home, he left with Da Bibiene, his mother, to search for a new home. To get out of this one.

[20/05, 13:29] Da Bibiene: Globif (Gloria*)u done studying u can cook there is fish. U can make sauce.

[20/05, 13:33] glo: Ok got it, I don't think there are enough tomatoes so should I make the chakalaka instead?

[20/05, 13:33] Da Bibiene: Check in the deep freezer

[20/05, 13:34] Da Bibiene: If u can see how many tomatoes are they

[20/05, 13:34] glo: There are two, I used some for the beans

[20/05, 13:34] glo: Is it okay If I make fish a little later, like 16:00?

[20/05, 13:34] Da Carine: Okk no problem

[20/05, 15:28] glo: Do I just need to cook for myself or the three of us?

[20/05, 16:21] Da Bibiene: For the 3 of us

[20/05, 16:23] glo: Got it, just started prepping the fish, fish, pap and chakalaka right?

[20/05, 17:09] Da Bibiene: Yeah

The labour begun, three fishes to gut, scale, cut, pull, tear, grip, gut, scale…..

They returned at 18:30 I was done with the fish then. They were fed and so I could getaway with making popcorn and porridge for dinner.

At 19:22 our meal was set and ready for consumption.

Dishing UP ** : I've lost count.

The rice newly brought from outside. There weren’t enough tomatoes, so I had to use the frozen one’s from the frige, I remember 15:22, is this the time I finished ? did it take 22 minutes to chop them? Probably not but the time is still recorded in my mind. I was sure I’d be done in an hour, it was only gravy and rice after all. I guess my putting the beans on the stove to cook for a bit more didn’t help. My being unsure of how many cups of water went into the rice probably played it’s part. At 16:34, I’m assuming, he came in, to check if I was done, he too was probably of the thought, it’s only rice and gravy, surely it shouldn’t take long but it’s me and so it did take long. At 17:00, I knocked on their rooms, that of Da Bibiene and her fiancé to wish them bon appetite. He came to the living room and uttered, in Lingala to his finace, “How can you invite to come and eat if you haven’t dished up”

Dishing up ** : I’ve lost count, I just haven’t lost the fact that I dislike this task most. I spoke to myself, I’ve prepared the dish, please dish up for yourselves. I begun dishing up for everyone, man first, the largest plate. I don’t think I made enough rice and so the portions became smaller. Precedent unresisted, it's rice and beans.

Matembele

Sweet potato leaves

She went to the nearest Congolese food stockist and returned with four bundles of matembele, each for R10.

Whilst I prepared the substitute legume(vegetable), spinach, she chopped away at the matembele.

For an hour and a half.
